In the year 2014, to mark the tenth anniversary of the founding of Innoventures Education, the Gift of Innoventures Education (GIVE) Foundation was launched.
At Innoventures Education the most important thing we do for our children is to help them develop values and skills that they can rely on throughout their lives. This includes contributing to international and local communities. The students of Innoventures Education have decided that the GIVE Foundations’ focus will be in providing access to clean drinking water and education in the less developed parts of the world.
In line with our students’ choice to support education related projects; on December 1, 2015, the GIVE initiative partnered with Dubai Cares to build schools in Nepal. In the Far Western Region of Nepal, the indigenous Tharu population continues to suffer from the effects of ethnic conflict and forced slavery. Inequitable access to education, unfair land agreements, and racial discrimination have all led to the plight of the Tharu people, who are just over a decade removed from a bonded labor system that was characterized by generations of oppression. Literacy among rural Tharu populations is well below Nepal’s national average, and more than 60% of Tharu people live below the poverty line.
“The future of any society depends on its ability to foster the health and well-being of the next generation … When we invest wisely in children and families, the next generation will pay that back through a lifetime of productivity and responsible citizenship. When we fail to provide children with what they need to build a strong foundation for healthy and productive lives, we put our future prosperity at risk.” - Center for the Developing Child at Harvard University.
Since the launch of Give, thanks to the generosity of parents, students and staff from our group schools, supplemented in equal measure by our Board of Directors, we have already raised enough funds to sponsor four schools in the region. In November of 2017, an inaugural Innoventures Nepal Ambassador team made the trip which saw the ground breaking of our first primary school, a first trek of this type for the UAE. Our hope is that, over time, we will be able to make a significant difference to our adopted communities in Nepal, and also give our students a chance to see the long term benefits of their philanthropic work.
